Triathlon - Basic Equipment Required A triathlon is one of the most demanding sports, but there is a feeling of accomplishment and achievement experienced once you've completed one, far exceeds the time, energy, effort and dedication needed for its preparation - for not to mention the long-term rights to boast!
Once you have decided to participate in your first triathlon, you must put your money where your mouth is and commit to purchasing the necessary equipment. Once all equipment has been purchased, there is no going back, and there is guilt associated with all that equipment rotting away in your garage, you hang in my face every time you go to mow the lawn could be overwhelming!
So, you have committed. What you need. Well, here is an overview on the necessary equipment.
Swimming
Typical requirements are a swimming cap, swimming goggles, a nose clip and a swimsuit or combination. Typically, participants are required to wear a swimming cap provided by the organizers, they are usually brightly colored for safety reasons and can be of different colors to indicate different categories.
Common combinations designed for snorkeling etc. will not provide optimum performance in a triathlon because the sleeves restrict the movement of the arm to prevent a stroke comfortable during the swim. Triathlon suits are tailored to the needs of a triathlete and include softer, more flexible rubber around the shoulder area, or sleeveless. They also have longer zippers and can have the wrist and ankle zippers to facilitate quick removal during transition. Triathlon Suit also be smooth and delicate to reduce water friction and allow greater speed in the water.
Cycle
The obvious main component for the cycle is the bike. The triathlon bike is a variant of the road bike and the most important difference is the addition of three bars or aero bars. Because triathletes can not the project can be done in cycling races, aerodynamics play an important role in the cycling leg of triathlon. frame tubes are oval rather than round and the wheels may have fewer spokes or even be carbon fiber tri spokes or discs. Tri bikes are very similar to bike against the clock.
Tri-bars or aero-bars are handlebars designed to reduce the drag of wind on a rider. They are fixed on the handlebars and have rests for the riders forearms while the hands are stretched forward to hold the bars in the center. This keeps the elbows near the body and reduces the torso for better aerodynamics.
Triathletes tend to become obsessed with aerodynamics in their quest to improve speed and performance with the result that manufacturers are concentrating more on improving triathlon bikes for the disconcerting triathlete.
Of course, other equipment required include the cycle helmet, clothing and shoes triathlon bike. Triathlon shoes are similar to cycling shoes in that they have automatic binding cleats that allow them to clip onto the pedals. Tri shoes are optimized for this approach in that they can be padded to allow the athlete more comfort while not wearing socks after the swim, they can have holes in them allowing water bathroom to empty easily, and may have one or two velcro straps instead of three to facilitate the fixing of bike.
This is just an overview of the most obvious equipment required to participate in a triathlon. Of course, to start, you do not need the most expensive bike with carbon fiber frame or have your brake and chain cables running inside the tube, these changes are for a later date when you become obsessed with shaving seconds PBS. For the moment, decide that you will compete in one, a triathlon specific target at the first, and organize training schedu.
