Hind Running

Hind RunningWhy do race horses running on synthetic surfaces have more rear leg in soft tissue injuries?

I found a very informative article published today on this thing. There are many opinions on synthetic tracks, but it helps to give statistics.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/ ...

There are mixed feelings about synthetic is almost political. A report by the Jockey Club are fewer non-fatal injuries on synthetic surfaces, which had a ratio of injuries per 1,215 starts compared to 1 per 136 starts on dirt. A study of the first year Del Mar Race Course on Polytrack down 15 percent in X-rays taken during the meeting, he called statistically significant.
And Kentucky veterinarian Marcus Cheney said that the comparison of horses at Keeneland that treaties with those of his partner treated at Churchill Downs has not found more soft tissue injuries after weekend on the circuit in Lexington, where horses run on Polytrack.
However, Kentucky equine veterinarian Steve Throughout the day, said he is seeing more injuries in the back of horses, primarily the ligaments Polytrack But he also said, you do not have any euthanize a horse with such injuries and believes it is a good compromise. In my opinion, rather Polytrack is proven to be a success or failure at least the industry has taken steps to try and strengthen security. As in any study, it is a matter of trial and error. Results as of now have not been conclusive, if the study and debate will continue until there is good evidence one way or another. What is good for our horses is good for me. :)

EDIT: I read the article provided that Vicki J's response, and I wonder why we the public were not told about these horse deaths, and now we are told today statistics .. It's really amazing to me, I think we should be informed by the past tragedy of all!
Thank you for the link section Vicky J.

Ooh! I know it! Because horses are much more accustomed to driving on the grass and dirt, they really push themselves to other limits on horseback on these synthetic surfaces.

Good response from Sandra, and ditto for Thanks to Vicki for this informative link! Personally, I hope they can all run on the grass all the time. Maybe in a perfect world. . . .

Do you have reliable sources and the actual figures for this claim? I have not heard it.
