Kings Hockey

The Los Angeles is a team of professional ice hockey based in Los Angeles, California. They are a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1967 in Los Angeles, California. The team logo of 1967-88 was a crown, which team members use on their jerseys. They played at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles area, their home for thirty-two years later moved to Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles to begin the 1999-2000 season . This is where many other teams leading the fight with each other for example, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Lakers in Los Angeles, etc.

The Los Angeles Kings have not had much success, their victory is only once in 1990-91. They qualified for the game post-season after failing to get out of the first round 12 times in 24 seasons. They claimed only once for the second round. The greatest credit was when they won their conference championship for the first time in history and reached the Stanley Cup final in 1992-93 season where they lost the series to Montreal Canadiens five games. Their nearest rival is the Anaheim Ducks, who play just 35 miles south, in Anaheim, California.

History

From 1988 to 1996, Wayne Gretzky, one of the most successful players, has been a part of the team. The Kings have had great players like Bill "Cowboy" Flett, Eddie "The Jet" Joyal, Eddie "The Entertainer" Shack, and Real "Frenchy" Lemieux. They are the kings to introduce into the NHL in the early seasons. The players had colorful nicknames by the owner Cooke, who thought it would add to the popularity of sport in Southern California. He insisted that the radio and television use nicknames to refer to the players above.

The team has suffered because of mismanagement after two good seasons. In 1972, the Kings hired their coach Bob Pulford. The team played five seasons well under his supervision. On June 23, 1975, the team has acquired a great figure, Marcel Dionne. He helped his team to second place in the Norris Division. It took the Kings 12 years and then was traded to the New York Rangers.

In May 2006, Marc Crawford was hired as head coach of the 21st Los Angeles. On February 28, 2007, the Kings and the NHL announced that the Kings would open 2007-08 National Hockey League at the O2 Arena in New London, England. The special "NHL Premiere 2007" series will be the game Kings first outside of North America. They have signed five unrestricted free agents, including center Michal Handzus, left wings Ladislav Nagy and Kyle Calder, Tom Preissing and defenders, Brad Stuart and Jon Klemm.

Like all teams in the NHL for the 2007-08 season, the Kings have changed their jerseys to the new Reebok Edge sweaters. The logo has not changed, but brought a new style with the bands.
