So with camera in hand lets see how you can create a large photo of Christmas.
The first thing to do is capture the image and most digital cameras that make the job easier. If you're new to photography, just select a program mode and the camera takes all exposure techniques in your hands, leaving you to concentrate on portraiture.
For indoor photos of the cameras appropriately titled party or portrait mode. These ensure the flash fires to make the image brighter. All you have to do is find the person to look good on the photo. When photographing children, you will find that they naturally tend to smile or a grimace when asked to pose, but there are ways around this to ensure you capture a more natural expression.
A trick I use is to ask them to look into the lens to find the genius camera. This obviously only works with young children! They will begin looking intensely into the lens. Jokes about the genius to make them smile or laugh and press the shutter button. Not only will you be a better expression, but you will also find the perfect eye contact.
Most devices have a way of reducing red-eye that fires a pre-flash to reduce the inductive effect of the devil. Make sure it is turned on and display a small eye icon on the LCD.
When you become more experienced try to turn the flash and using natural light from the window or room light. The mode appears as a symbol of lightning little line through it. Window light casts a shadow on the unlit side of the portrait that can be effectively reduced by using aluminum foil, spray mounted on a large sheet of card. Position the reflector so that it points to the subject of the shady side. When you move the map, you will see the light reflects on the person and the shadows disappear.
A question of balance
If you take pictures using the room lighting you might need to switch to a different camera.
